Strut Your Mutt -- Sunday July 26th, 2009

A group new to Strut Your Mutt this year was Dreamin’ My Way Home, which is headquartered in Barnhill. The organization works to transport rescue dogs to their new homes across the country. Most of the dogs pick up rides with truck drivers, but the group does use other forms of transportation. Established in December, the group also provides a special service to pet owners who travel with their animals. Drivers in Need of Emergency Pet Rescue/Transport provides pet owners with contact information so that if they should be in an accident and unable to provide information on their pet, emergency responders can call D.I.N.O. which will see that the pet is returned to family or friends at home. Cynthia J. Stout, secretary and CEO of Dreamin’ My Way Home, said, “We love animals and are concerned about them traveling safely. Truckers travel some long miles. Taking care of animals they are transporting helps break up the trip and provides the pets with a ride back to people they know who will care for them.” Stout said trucking companies or independent drivers also can deduct 14 cents per mile for each mile they transport the animals. “It works out for everyone,” she said. She said the group made several contacts including with law enforcement and the area veterinary community by setting up an exhibit at Strut Your Mutt. For more information on Dreamin’ My Way Home, visit the organization’s Web site at www.dreaminmywayhome.com, call Stout at (330) 447-5181 or e-mail her at cynthia@dreaminmywayhome.com.

    Flea/Tick Alert -- Saturday February 7th, 2009

Why Your Dog or Cat May Be at Risk By M.B. Pell and Jillian Olsen, The Center for Public Integrity February 2, 2009, http://www.alternet .org/story/ 123420/ These pyrethroid-based flea and tick treatments -- from Hartz, Sergeant's, Farnam, and Bayer -- are approved for sale by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and they are readily available at grocery stores, specialty pet retailers, and hardware stores. But they are also linked to thousands of reported pet poisonings, and they have stirred the ire of pet owners, the concern of veterinarians, and the attention of regulatory agencies.

    Please read -- Friday January 9th, 2009

Hello, This was just forwarded to me. I am NOT respondsible for the contents. Please check it out! If you feed this food - don't. I just found out from my pet food store (Cutters Mill) last week that Timberwolf had a recall on several types of their dry dog food. This information came up in a conversation with one of the employees and was not announced or posted anywhere in the store. It has been kept very hush, hush by the Timberwolf Organics comany. Apparently there have been reports of this food making dogs ill for months and months which was, even after all of the recalls a year or so ago, were not immediately addressed or addressed at all for months by the company. They have never issued an explanation and have been very uncooperative with consumers who have tried to contact them either with concerns or regarding their pet's illnesses. Please don't feed this food and please tell anyone you know who may feed it not to do so. I was shocked about this information and am very concerned as I liked the ingredients of the food and, thinking I was providing a healthy choice for my dogs, regularly have fed Timberwolf for about a year and a half. Here are a few links to information: http://thewholedog. org/wholedognews /?p=128 or http://www.petsugar .com/1692275
